4th of July

For the 4th of July this year, we didn't really do anything all that amazing, but we did have a good time! During the day we were going to take the kids to a nearby park, but when we got there, it was way crowded because some people were having a cookout or some kind of party. Ok. So we scrapped that idea and drove up to nearby Mapleton Canyon and drove around and walked around a bit. We found this gravel trail that went up a ways and decided to check it out. We saw a stream and the kids were fascinated by a pool we found that had TONS of butterflies by it. Of course I didn't have my camera with me.

We walked up the trail for a while and would have liked to go further, but me and the girls were all wearing flip-flops--not exactly the best hiking shoes. Of course had we known we were going hiking we would have worn appropriate shoes. But anyway we had fun looking at all the butterflies and cool rocks my kids seem to pick up everywhere outdoors we go.

We came back to the house and ate dinner-- Matt made ribs and we attempted to slow-cook a pork roast for pulled pork. It was alright (Matt thought it was good), but coming from the south and having Memphis Rendezvous authentic pulled pork, I'm a bit spoiled and nothing quite ever measures up. BTW, my sisters are visiting my parents in Memphis right now, and where did they go eat the first night?? Rendezvous, of course....I hate you guys.

Then we shot off some fireworks and watched the neighbors'...our neighborhood actually puts on a pretty good show. Here are some pics from the 4th. The last 2 are from that almost-dark time when it's not quite dark enough to shoot off the fireworks yet but the kids are getting antsy....so I took a bunch of pictures to keep them busy...they love posing for the camera! Enjoy!!
